Tinnitus Treatment - Know the Facts

Alternative Medicine:

Tinnitus is a condition that is commonly found in both the young and old. But what is tinnitus? Tinnitus is the perception of a ringing sound in the ears that can be heard only by the person experiencing the tinnitus.
Tinnitus and hearing loss can be permanent conditions, thus, precautionary measures are advisable. If a ringing in the ears is audible after exposure to a loud environment, such as a rock concert or a work place, it means that damage has been done. Prolonged exposure to noise levels as low as 70 dB can result in damage to hearing (see noise health effects.)
Treatment effects were assessed by using a standardized tinnitus questionnaire directly after the therapy and three months later. Evaluation after three months revealed remarkable advantages for the group of patients who received the combination TMS treatment.
Determine the cause of your tinnitus by exploring the 4 main causes of tinnitus listed under the heading Homeopathic Tinnitus Remedies on the menu at left or by clicking on the buttons at the top of this page. One of the first facts you will discover is that over 90% of tinnitus is caused by cochlear damage - which is normally the result of exposure to noise, ear infection or a blow to the head.
After a careful evaluation, your doctor may find an identifiable cause and be able to treat or make recommendations to treat the tinnitus. Once you have had a thorough evaluation, an essential part of treatment is your own understanding of the tinnitus (what has caused it, and your options for treatment).
Protect your hearing at work. Your work place should follow Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) regulations. Wear ear plugs or earmuffs and follow hearing conservation guidelines set by your employer.
The attitude you have towards your tinnitus is crucial, and people with a positive attitude find it more manageable. Having a trusting relationship with your doctor, who takes your concerns seriously, and is willing to try several approaches to treatment if necessary, will help you to feel that you are making some progress.
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a standard approach. CBT is a combination of cognitive therapy, which examines unwanted thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs (called cognitive processes) and behavioural therapy, which focuses on behaviour in response to those thoughts.
Hypnosis is a very common treatment for a lot of illnesses including tinnitus. Tinnitus can be caused by a lot of loud noise of even sinus pressure. Hypnosis is known to help get rid of the ringing in your ears and actually prevent it from coming back. It involves listening to music that is designed to get rid of the tinnitus completely. I have not tried this method personally, but have read a lot of good things about it.
Many patients find that music, particularly classical passages that don't contain wide variations in loudness (ampliltude) can be both soothing to the limbic system (the emotional processor in the brain that is commonly negatively linked to a patient's reaction to tinnitus) and stimulating to the auditory cortex. If a hearing loss is present, it may be necessary to alter the spectrum of the music so that the cortical neurons.

Facts on Cholesterol and Methods of Preventing the Ill Effects of Cholesterol

Alternative Medicine:

Cholesterol used to be a word of terror for people. Cholesterol is present in cell membranes and transported through blood plasma.

Cholesterol is produced inside body at the liver. The food we take also contains varying amounts of cholesterol. The body has a system to speed up or reduce cholesterol production in accordance with dietary intake.

There are two types of cholesterol - low-density lipoprotein and high-density lipoprotein. LDL is considered bad cholesterol and HDL is good cholesterol.

When the levels of LDL become high in blood, the LDL cholesterol gets deposited in blood vessel walls. Arteries become thickened or hardened (arteriosclerosis) and block the free passage of blood. This increases blood pressure and leads to cardio vascular diseases including heart attack.

Another version of LDL is Lp(a). Lp(a) is a variation of LDL, which increase the risk of arteriosclerosis (thickening of blood vessels walls by deposition of fat).

Excess cholesterol levels in blood must be checked with a healthy lifestyle and diet. Daily exercise and keeping your body fit can help reduce LDL levels and increase HDL levels in blood.

Include more vegetarian food in your daily menu. Our body produces enough amounts of cholesterol. If the body is supplemented with excess food in the form of fatty good, you can expect an accumulation of unwanted cholesterol in your body. The extra intake and alter the natural balance in cholesterol production by liver.

Moderate use of alcohol does have a positive effect on blood cholesterol levels. If alcohol consumption gets out of control, it will bring many serious health issues.

Some Ayurvedic home remedies for excess cholesterol include garlic (Allium sativum), Arjuna (Terminalia arjuna), Guggul (Commiphora mukul) etc.

Lyme Disease - The Facts

Alternative Medicine:

Lyme disease is a systemic infection caused by the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi. Lyme disease is diagnosed based on symptoms, physical findings , and the possibility of exposure to infected ticks; laboratory testing is helpful in the later stages of disease. Lyme disease is a tick-borne illness that causes signs and symptoms ranging from rash and flu-like fever and body aches to more serious ones including joint swelling, weakness, fatigue and temporary paralysis. Lyme disease can be transmitted from an infected mother to fetus through the placenta during pregnancy, possibly resulting in stillbirth. Lyme disease has at least 37 known species, 12 of which are Lyme related, and an unknown number of genomic strains. Lyme disease can affect the skin, joints, nervous system, and other organ systems. Symptoms, and their severity, can vary from person to person. In about 50% of the cases a characteristic rash or lesion called erythema migrans is seen. It begins a few days to a few weeks after the bite of an infected tick.

It is often described as looking like a bull's-eye with alternating light and dark rings. Lyme disease is the most common tick-borne disease in North America and Europe, and one of the fastest-growing infectious diseases in the United States. Lyme disease can affect the heart, leading to an irregular heart rhythm or chest pain. It can spread to the nervous system, causing facial paralysis or tingling and numbness in the arms and legs. It can start to cause headaches and neck stiffness, which may be a sign of meningitis. Swelling and pain in the large joints can also occur. Lyme disease is not transmitted from person to person. The risk of developing Lyme disease depends on an individual's exposure to ticks. In 60-80 percent of cases, a rash resembling a bull's eye or solid patch, about two inches in diameter, appears and expands around or near the site of the bite. Lyme disease is most common in rural and suburban areas in the northeastern and midwestern states. Lyme disease occurs in patients of all ages. However, a bimodal peak exists: one at age 5-14 years and a second one at 50-59 years

Risk factors for Lyme disease include walking in high grasses, taking place in activities that increase tick exposure, and having a pet that may carry ticks home. Lyme arthritis which is antibiotic resistant may be treated with hydroxychloroquine or methotrexate. Antibiotic treatment is the central pillar in the management of Lyme disease. Traditional treatment of acute Lyme disease usually consists of a minimum two-week to one-month course of antibiotics. Doxycycline - bacteriostatic properties stops synthesis of bacteria replication. Inhibits bacterial protein synthesis. Amoxicillin - bacteriostatic properties do not kill bacterium, but do halt bacterial growth by inhibition of cell wall synthesis. Ceftriaxone - (intravenous therapy) bactericidal properties kill bacterium. Wear a hat and a long-sleeved shirt for added protection. Wear light-colored clothing so that ticks can be spotted more easily. Wash all clothes after leaving tick-infested areas, and bathe and shampoo your child thoroughly to eliminate any unseen ticks.

Lyme Disease Treatment Tips

1. Oral antibiotics -usually doxycycline for adults and children older than 8.

2. Use repellents only in small amounts, avoiding unnecessary repeat application.

3. Try to reduce the use of repellents by dressing in long sleeves and pants tucked into socks or boots.

4. Do not apply near eyes, nose or mouth and use sparingly around ears. Do not apply to the hands of small children.

5. Use an insect repellent containing deep or permethrin.

6. Apply deep sparingly to skin according to directions on the label.

7. Apply repellents according to label instructions. Applying directly to clothing appears to be most effective.

8. Avoid plantings that especially attract deer and other animals.

Essential Facts About Your Stretch Mark Solution

Alternative Medicine:

Looking for a good stretch mark solution can be both a very challenging and frustrating experience. Since people's skins are unique, not all methods have the same level of effectiveness. Discover the facts about different solutions and see what solution will work best for you.

Fact #1: Stretch mark solution advice will depend on who is giving it.

Different people have different views on how to best remove stretch mark. For example, your dermatologist may suggest that a dermabrasion session is the best solution for you while your surgeon may suggest surgery. In truth, every stretch mark solution option have their advantages and disadvantages.

Dermabrasion may be less effective than surgery but on the other hand, it is a less invasive solution. Dermabrasion may simply be described as a more drastic form of skin exfoliation where very fine wires rapidly spin across your skin, getting rid of dead skin cells to make room for new skin. However, this does not directly address the problem of stretch mark since stretch marks develop from the inner layers of the skin.

Surgery is more effective as a stretch mark solution but it is more risky, more invasive as well as costly. Stretch mark surgery is also not available for all parts of the body and as of the moment, only tummy tuck is available to remove abdominal stretch mark. Unfortunately, tummy tuck can result to weeks of discomfort and pain, not to mention the high danger of infection as well a the possibility of a more visible scar.

Fact #2: Leave your stretch marks alone.

There are also some people who will advise you to simple avoid doing anything or applying anything on the stretch mark scars since these may eventually fade over time. However, this wait-and-see stretch mark solution would mean that you have to wait and possibly waste some of the best years of your life until the stretch marks simply fade. In addition to waiting, there is also the possibility that you gain more weight over time and thus, instead of diminishing the scars, time and more weight will only add more to it.

You can also simply wear one piece suits to the beach. That would however, most likely remove part of the fun of being at the beach. In the beach, you'd want to naturally show off a bit or just be yourself without feeling conscious about other people staring at you.

Fact # 3: Practical and natural stretch mark solutions do not always remove stretch marks permanently but they are the most pro-active and the safest way to get rid of stretch marks.

Instead of blowing your money over risky medical procedures that are not even guaranteed stretch mark solutions, you can try the natural way. One natural stretch mark solution is to watch your weight. This may sometimes be difficult though since you may not always be able to perfectly limit body expansion especially if you are pregnant. You can always try your best though to maintain a regular diet and keep your self hydrated.

Cardio and aerobic exercises are other stretch mark solutions. Exercise can help improve your blood circulation and proper distribution of nutrients and oxygen to your skin, making it more supple, elastic, thus, less likely to develop stretch marks. Some exercises are not good to remove stretch marks, however, like muscle building. Because of muscle expansion, muscle building will more likely add to your stretch marks than remove it.

For added results, accompany your natural stretch marks solution with supplements to provide your body with more nutrients that are good for you skin.
