Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Treatment Information

Alternative Medicine:

The chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a lung disease in which the lungs are damaged, making it difficult to breathe. COPD is common. Approximately one million people in the UK have COPD. It mainly affects people over the age of 40. It represents a work stoppage more time than any other disease. Smoking is the primary risk factor for COPD. Approximately 80 to 90 percent of COPD deaths are caused by smoking. Breathing in other kinds of lung irritants, such as pollution, dust, or chemicals over a long period of time may also cause or contribute to COPD. Cough is usually the first symptom to develop.
It is productive with sputum (phlegm). It tends to come and go at first, then gradually became more persistent (chronic). Shortness of breath and wheeze may occur. Lung infections are more common. Wheezing and coughing with shortness of breath may become worse than usual if you have a lung infection. Crachat is generally yellow or green during a lung infection. Quitting is the most important treatment. The most important thing is to stop smoking. Inhalateurs are commonly used to relieve the symptoms. Other treatments, such as steroids, antibiotics, oxygen and mucolytic drugs are sometimes prescribed.
Bronchodilator medicines (prescription drugs that relax and open up air passages in the lungs) are at the heart of the management of the symptoms of COPD. The exercise as many times as you are able to help keep the lungs strong and builds self-confidence. Aides to physiotherapy clear mucus in the lungs. Antibiotics are used during outbreaks of symptoms such as infections can worsen COPD. Surgery to remove parts of the lung disease has proved useful for some patients with COPD. Lung rehabilitation programs can help some patients. Lung transplantation is sometimes done for serious cases. Try to lose weight if you are overweight.
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Treatment and Prevention Tips
1. Lung transplant is sometimes performed for severe cases.
2. Surgery is an option in a very small number of cases.
3. Physiotherapy helps to clear mucus from the lungs.
4. Antibiotics are used during flare-ups of symptoms as infections of COPD.
5. Pneumonia and influenza vaccines should be given to COPD patients.
6. Bronchodilator medications are central to the symptomatic management of COPD.
7. Eating a healthy diet and drinking enough liquid is essential.
8. Steam inhalation and humidifying rooms can also help breathing by loosening mucus.

Buerger's Disease Information and Treatment

Alternative Medicine:

Buerger's disease also called as thromboangiitis obliterans. Buerger's disease is an acute inflammation and thrombosis (clotting) of arteries and veins of the hands and feet. Buerger's disease ultimately damages or destroys tissues and may result to infection and gangrene. It is strongly related with use of tobacco products, primarily from smoking, but also from smokeless tobacco. Heavy cigarette smokers are most likely to develop buerger's disease. Buerger's disease is most generally found in the Orient, Southeast Asia, India and the Middle East, but seems to be infrequent among african americans.
Buerger's disease most normally affects men between ages 20 and 40, though it's becoming more common in women. Symptoms of buerger's disease involve tenderness or pain in the feet or hands during exercise , or when at rest. Other possible symptoms embrace tingling and numbness in the limbs, and Raynaud's phenomenon. There's no cure of buerger's. The only effective treatment is to stop smoking. Patients must stop smoking immediately. Conventional medical treatments may help alleviate the symptoms of buerger's disease. Vascular surgery can sometimes be helpful in treating limbs with poor perfusion secondary to this disease.
Anti-inflammatory agents have proven profitable in excess vasculitides, they are not beneficial in treating buerger's. Intravenous iloprost use is probably of greatest value in slowing progressive tissue loss and reducing the need for amputation in patients with critical limb ischemia during the period when they first discontinue cigarette smoking. The use of thrombolytic therapy in the treatment of Buerger disease has been proposed. Recently, Isner and colleagues reported improved healing of ischemic ulcers and relief of rest pain in a small series of patients with Buerger disease using intramuscular gene transfer of vascular endothelial growth factor.
Exposure of affected areas to warm or cold should be avoided. Trauma to the feet and other affected areas should be avoided and infections must be treated immediately. Streptokinase has been suggested as adjuvant therapy in many cases. Use of well-fitting protective footwear to obviate foot trauma and thermal or chemical injury. Self care is very important your body against buerger's disease. Be careful of your fingers and toes if you have buerger's disease. Small cuts and scrapes can simply turn into serious infections. Clean any cuts with water and cover them with a clean bandage.

Lyme Disease - The Facts

Alternative Medicine:

Lyme disease is a systemic infection caused by the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi. Lyme disease is diagnosed based on symptoms, physical findings , and the possibility of exposure to infected ticks; laboratory testing is helpful in the later stages of disease. Lyme disease is a tick-borne illness that causes signs and symptoms ranging from rash and flu-like fever and body aches to more serious ones including joint swelling, weakness, fatigue and temporary paralysis. Lyme disease can be transmitted from an infected mother to fetus through the placenta during pregnancy, possibly resulting in stillbirth. Lyme disease has at least 37 known species, 12 of which are Lyme related, and an unknown number of genomic strains. Lyme disease can affect the skin, joints, nervous system, and other organ systems. Symptoms, and their severity, can vary from person to person. In about 50% of the cases a characteristic rash or lesion called erythema migrans is seen. It begins a few days to a few weeks after the bite of an infected tick.

It is often described as looking like a bull's-eye with alternating light and dark rings. Lyme disease is the most common tick-borne disease in North America and Europe, and one of the fastest-growing infectious diseases in the United States. Lyme disease can affect the heart, leading to an irregular heart rhythm or chest pain. It can spread to the nervous system, causing facial paralysis or tingling and numbness in the arms and legs. It can start to cause headaches and neck stiffness, which may be a sign of meningitis. Swelling and pain in the large joints can also occur. Lyme disease is not transmitted from person to person. The risk of developing Lyme disease depends on an individual's exposure to ticks. In 60-80 percent of cases, a rash resembling a bull's eye or solid patch, about two inches in diameter, appears and expands around or near the site of the bite. Lyme disease is most common in rural and suburban areas in the northeastern and midwestern states. Lyme disease occurs in patients of all ages. However, a bimodal peak exists: one at age 5-14 years and a second one at 50-59 years

Risk factors for Lyme disease include walking in high grasses, taking place in activities that increase tick exposure, and having a pet that may carry ticks home. Lyme arthritis which is antibiotic resistant may be treated with hydroxychloroquine or methotrexate. Antibiotic treatment is the central pillar in the management of Lyme disease. Traditional treatment of acute Lyme disease usually consists of a minimum two-week to one-month course of antibiotics. Doxycycline - bacteriostatic properties stops synthesis of bacteria replication. Inhibits bacterial protein synthesis. Amoxicillin - bacteriostatic properties do not kill bacterium, but do halt bacterial growth by inhibition of cell wall synthesis. Ceftriaxone - (intravenous therapy) bactericidal properties kill bacterium. Wear a hat and a long-sleeved shirt for added protection. Wear light-colored clothing so that ticks can be spotted more easily. Wash all clothes after leaving tick-infested areas, and bathe and shampoo your child thoroughly to eliminate any unseen ticks.

Lyme Disease Treatment Tips

1. Oral antibiotics -usually doxycycline for adults and children older than 8.

2. Use repellents only in small amounts, avoiding unnecessary repeat application.

3. Try to reduce the use of repellents by dressing in long sleeves and pants tucked into socks or boots.

4. Do not apply near eyes, nose or mouth and use sparingly around ears. Do not apply to the hands of small children.

5. Use an insect repellent containing deep or permethrin.

6. Apply deep sparingly to skin according to directions on the label.

7. Apply repellents according to label instructions. Applying directly to clothing appears to be most effective.

8. Avoid plantings that especially attract deer and other animals.

Parkinson's Disease - Causes, Symptoms and Treatment Methods

Alternative Medicine:

Parkinson's Disease is a disease mostly affecting middle-aged and elderly people characterized by tremors and rigid, slow movement. It is also known as PD or Parkinson disease. Early symptoms of PD are subtle and occur gradually. Parkinson's disease belongs to a group of conditions called movement disorders. The disease is both chronic, meaning it persists over a long period of time, and progressive, meaning its symptoms grow worse over time. Parkinson's disease was named after Scottish physician James Parkinson, who published a description of the condition. Cardinal features include resting tremor, rigidity, bradykinesia, and postural instability. In some people the disease progresses more quickly than in others. It is characterized by muscle rigidity, tremor, a slowing of physical movement ( bradykinesia ), and in extreme cases, a loss of physical movement ( akinesia ). PD usually affects people over the age of 50. The risk of PD increases with age, so analysts expect the financial and public health impact of this disease to increase as the population gets older. In Parkinson's, cells are destroyed in part of the brain stem - the substantia nigra, which sends out fibers to the corpus stratia, gray and white bands of tissue in both sides of the brain. Parkinson's disease is called idiopathic Parkinson's because the cause is unknown. In the other forms of parkinsonism, a cause is known or suspected.

Causes of Parkinson's disease

The common causes and risk factor's of Parkinson's disease include the following:

The exact cause of Parkinson's disease is not known.

Pesticides or other chemicals.

A combination of genetic and environmental factors.

Environmental toxins.

Proximity to industrial plants or quarries.

Exposure to an environmental toxin. .

Having one or more close relatives with Parkinson's.

Symptoms of Parkinson's disease

Some sign and symptoms related to Parkinson's disease are as follows:

Loss of automatic movements.

Fatigue.

Difficulty swallowing.

Nightmares.

Depression.

Micrographia (small, cramped handwriting).

Difficulty walking or buttoning clothes.

Tremor.

Slowed motion (bradykinesia).

Treatment of Parkinson's disease

Here is list of the methods for treating Parkinson's disease:

Parlodel is a useful drug for Parkinson's disease.

Tolcapone

Pramipexole.

Trihexyphenidyl.

Selegiline (Eldepryl): This drug, used with or without carbidopa-levodopa therapy, helps prevent the breakdown of both naturally occurring dopamine and dopamine formed from levodopa.

Other treatment approaches, including general lifestyle modifications (rest and exercise), physical therapy, speech therapy, will be covered in Maintaining Optimal Wellness.

Various forms of surgical treatment are available to control movement disorders when medications are ineffective.

Rise of Disease

Any disease, big or small originates from the mind. Disturbance in the mind, if not managed in time, manifests itself in some sort of a physical ailment.

How can daily stress and unresolved issues cause disease?

Our bodily functions are controlled by a complex play of various hormones, enzymes and chemicals. The production of these chemicals is done by the pituitary-pineal-hypothalamus gland complex in our brain. The brain acts after getting the signals from the mind.

A peaceful and relaxed mind will send normal impulses to the brain, whereas, a stressful mind, will generate chaotic impulses, leading to a disturbance in the brain's gland complex. This will further lead to minor metabolic defects. These defects gradually become major defects, producing a spectrum of diseases.

For example, let us see how stress can lead to major heart problems: Stress
