Know The Side Effects Of Taking Diazepam

Western Medicine:

Diazepam, which is also commonly known as Valium, belongs to a family of drugs that are called Benzodiazepines. They are well known for their capabilities of relieving anxiety, tension, and other symptoms related to anxiety disorders. At times, Diazepam may be used for other conditions depending on the suitability of the drug for a patient's condition.
Diazepam has been known to affect chemicals in the brain, causing imbalances, resulting in anxiety, seizures, and muscle spasms in patients. Some of the possible side effects of taking Diazepam can be allergic reactions, causing breathing difficulties, yellowing of the skin or eyes, rashes, hallucinations, or sores in the mouth and throat. It is recommended that if a patient has any of these symptoms to discontinue taking the medication immediately and seek medical attention.
Some of the less harmful side effects are drowsiness, dizziness, depression, nausea, difficulty urinating, headaches, and changes in behavior. Reduction in sex drive or a dry mouth may also be noticed. If a patient has any of the above symptoms, they should continue taking Diazepam and seek the advice of their doctor.
Other side effects may occur when a patient is taking Diazepam, it is recommended that if a patient is noticing any symptoms that are causing discomfort or seem strange that they speak with the doctor that prescribed the medication.
Diazepam may not mix well with other drugs, especially those that may cause drowsiness. Some of the drugs that should not be mixed with Diazepam are anti- depressants, antihistamines, sedatives, pain relievers, or medications that work as a muscle relaxant.
Antacids will lessen the effects of Diazepam. If antacids are necessary for a patient it is recommended that they be taken about three hours apart from each other. It is important to discuss with your doctor what medications you are currently taking as there are other medications, not mentioned here, that might either react or decrease the effects of Diazepam.
Activities that should be avoided while taking Diazepam are driving cars or machinery. Diazepam can cause drowsiness. Alcohol should not be consumed while taking this medication. It is likely that the consumption of alcohol can cause increased dizziness and drowsiness, and the risks of having a seizure are greatly increased.
Diazepam is to be taken as directed by your doctor. It is important to take the correct dose, if a patient misses a does it is recommended that they skip that dose and take the next dose as usual. If you forget to take it, do not take it again if it is real close to the next time you are scheduled to take it. Skipping one does is not critical. Taking two doses too close together can cause a lot of problems.
In conclusion, please note that Diazepam is habit forming. I strongly encourage you to discuss with your doctor the length of time you will be taking this medication.

Home Remedies For Acne - Possible Side Effects

Home Remedies:
Home remedies for acne are varied. You can choose from a tangerine juice treatment, cabbage mask, orange tonic or a watermelon juice treatment. Even tomato, almonds, mint juice, apple tonic, amaranth juice and cucumber lotion are potent home remedies for acne.
This sea of counter medications can benefit you when used wisely. Many resort to home remedies as an extension of the parlour treatments, expensive medicines by the dermatologists or cosmetics claiming to work miracles. However, home remedies can offer a permanent solution to your skin problems.
Anything which is done without proper knowledge of its functioning is bound to hamper your condition. The first requisite of the home remedies for acne is the knowledge of your skin type. There are basically four skin types. The oily, dry, normal and the combination skin are the categories of skin divisions without the knowledge of; there is a possible chance of skin damage. The kind of treatment that is suited for the oily skin may not be conditioned for a dry skin type. Hence, possible side affects to home remedies for acne are aggravated because of lack of knowledge.
Side affects are caused chiefly due to intolerance to a particular ingredient in the medication. Often, in a haste to improve one's skin conditions, people use constituents without checking whether or not they are tolerant to the particular thing. To prevent the possible side affects, learn about the things that make your concoction. This will keep you from hassles in the near future. However, if the side affects are mild, ensure counter-medications that may help your condition. Also, not all acne scars can be treated using home treatment.
Most acne scars are of a depressed type and spreads deeper into the skin cells. Home remedies may help lighten the scars, but, once the acne heals a skin layer is formed over the depression and the scar becomes permanent. There maybe deep scars called ice pick scars, oval shaped boxcar scars and rolling scars. The permanent solution to scars caused by acne is dependent on the collagen supply to the skin. Check to see whether your home remedies for acne helps fill collagen or not.
Vitamin C helps to boost collagen. If the home remedies for acne are not collagen fillers, they will not help much. A lot is made out of home remedies, but when not used wisely and carefully, you may end up spending a lot of money and effort plus hassles in the form of unwanted side affects.
More home remedies for acne can be found on web.

Facts on Cholesterol and Methods of Preventing the Ill Effects of Cholesterol

Alternative Medicine:

Cholesterol used to be a word of terror for people. Cholesterol is present in cell membranes and transported through blood plasma.

Cholesterol is produced inside body at the liver. The food we take also contains varying amounts of cholesterol. The body has a system to speed up or reduce cholesterol production in accordance with dietary intake.

There are two types of cholesterol - low-density lipoprotein and high-density lipoprotein. LDL is considered bad cholesterol and HDL is good cholesterol.

When the levels of LDL become high in blood, the LDL cholesterol gets deposited in blood vessel walls. Arteries become thickened or hardened (arteriosclerosis) and block the free passage of blood. This increases blood pressure and leads to cardio vascular diseases including heart attack.

Another version of LDL is Lp(a). Lp(a) is a variation of LDL, which increase the risk of arteriosclerosis (thickening of blood vessels walls by deposition of fat).

Excess cholesterol levels in blood must be checked with a healthy lifestyle and diet. Daily exercise and keeping your body fit can help reduce LDL levels and increase HDL levels in blood.

Include more vegetarian food in your daily menu. Our body produces enough amounts of cholesterol. If the body is supplemented with excess food in the form of fatty good, you can expect an accumulation of unwanted cholesterol in your body. The extra intake and alter the natural balance in cholesterol production by liver.

Moderate use of alcohol does have a positive effect on blood cholesterol levels. If alcohol consumption gets out of control, it will bring many serious health issues.

Some Ayurvedic home remedies for excess cholesterol include garlic (Allium sativum), Arjuna (Terminalia arjuna), Guggul (Commiphora mukul) etc.

The Most Serious Anorexia Side Effects

Alternative Medicine:

Anorexia is not just about weight loss and refusing to eat. Anorexia has major side effects on the mental, physical and emotional state of a person.

Contracting anorexia means getting a new life style, new coping strategies, new relationships, new thought pattern and a whole new way of living and none of it is good.

You can say that a new sufferer becomes like a completely new person, different from what she/he used to be.

One of the very distinctive side effects of anorexia is a distorted perception about themselves. It is related to their own body image, their self being and also how they perceive other people as well.

The main measurement of all becomes how skinny they are. Anorexics perceive that their worth is directly related to their weight. They feel and think the same way about other people also.

For example a 19 year old anorexic girl I was talking to said once:" I know that the more weight I lose the better and stronger person I become. I understand that all overweight people are lazy, fat and no good".

But the meaning of being overweight for her is far away from reality. She perceives even normal weight people as overweight, including herself. She was already only 49 kg (height 164cm) but she still saw herself like a fat and overweight person.

She sees this picture because of the other major side effect of anorexia called "broken eye syndrome". And because anorexics see a wrong picture of themselves and others they want to loose more and more weight and can't stop starving themselves and over exercising.

Their relationships with other people change a lot since they contracted their anorexia because they need to spend all their time counting calories, exercising and thinking over a new strategy to lose more weight. Plus anorexics become very judgmental and picky and loose interest in others and everything they did before. All these prevent them from having a normal relationship with others.

And the other side effect of anorexia is their changing respond to everyday stress. This encompasses everything that happens to them, anorexics respond by increasing their exercising time, cutting down on calories and withdrawing further away from other people.

To conclude, anorexia has many side effects on a person. And to stop these negative side effects it is important to change the sufferer's perception back to what it was before the anorexia.
If their perception is returned back to normal a person will be able to lead a good and healthy life again.

Dr Irina Webster MD is the Director of Women Health Issues Program. She is a recognised athority in the eating disorders area. She is an author of many books and a public speaker.Learn more about anorexia side effects and anorexia treatment at http://www.mom-please-help.com
