Get Information about Flatulence Treatment

Alternative Medicine:

Flatulence is a common problem that affects everyone at some time or other. It occurs when you need to drive out the excess air that builds up in your body. The gut from oesophagus to rectum contains a lot of gases, but mainly of nitrogen and oxygen, which is produced during eating and talking. Carbon dioxide is produced when the acid present in the stomach comes into contact with bile and juices from the pancreas. Some of these gases are absorbed into the blood and will be breathed out in due course. The rest is passed out through the rectum.
If you are generally healthy, then flatulence should not be a cause for concern. Treatment may be necessary if the flatulence become very severe or is accompanied by other symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting or diarrhoea, in which case you should first get advice from your GP.There are some gut relaxant drugs available, which can help to ease bloating and the symptoms associated with flatulence. Asmebeverine and Alverine are available in over-the-counter treatments or on prescription through your GP.
Take a tsp of ajowan(Ajmud) seeds and roast it in a pan until the seeds turn red. Pour 2 cups of water into the pan and boil until the water is reduced to half . Take this decoction once a day for a safe and sure remedy for gaseous distension of the abdomen.
Mix a tsp each of liquorice (Mulhati?in Hindi and jesthtamadhu?in Kannada) and sugar in water and drink from time to time.
Chewing peppermint after a meal does a lot more than just freshening your breath. Peppermint contains menthol that soothes the digestive muscles. It helps in treating flatulence, bloating and abdominal pain that accompanies gas. Peppermint oil combined with caraway oil has been used since ages to treat abdominal discomfort caused by flatulence.
Most flatus is produced in the intestine by undigested carbohydrates. Instead of being broken down in the stomach, some starches enter the small intestine intact. The intestine does not produce the enzymes necessary to digest two specific carbohydrates--raffinose and stachyose--so they just sit there until the bacteria that normally inhabit the bowel ferment, a process that releases gas.
The foods causing the most flatulence, such as leguminous vegetables, cabbage, black bread, etc., must o,f course be eliminated from the diet, and when necessary milk must also be forbidden or only allowed in small quantities, Care must also be taken that its origin be irreproachable. A diet easily digested must be adhered to; it may be composed of tender meat, ham, eggs, rice, tapioca, sago, fine white bread, zwieback, etc. Potatoes are only allowed when mashed, as fried or roasted potatoes give rise to flatulency. Bread made with a sour dough should be avoided, as in this way large quantities of bacteria are introduced. Whatever might cause fermentative processes must be usually avoided. Beer especially is forbidden. Tea or even a little red wine might be used to advantage.
Activated charcoal tablets, available without a prescription at drugstores, may help to absorb some excess gas and calm your flatulence problem. If you are taking any prescription medications, however, first ask your pharmacist whether the activated charcoal will interfere with them.

Schizophreniform Disorder Causes Symptoms Information with Treatment

Alternative Medicine:

Schizophreniform Disorder is more likely to occur in people if they have family members with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder (also called manic depression). The disorder occurs equally in men and women, although it often strikes men at a younger age, between the ages of 18 and 24. Schizophreniform disorder appears to be related to abnormalities in the structure and chemistry of the brain, and appears to have strong genetic links. Treatment of schizophreniform disorder is generally the same as that for schizophrenia. Treatment aims to protect and stabilize the patient, to minimize the psychosocial consequences, and to resolve the target symptoms with minimal adverse effects. Antipsychotic medications are the most common type of medication used to treat this disorder, but other medications such as tranquilizers and antidepressants may also be of value. The patient who may be at risk of harming himself or herself or others requires hospitalization. This allows for complete diagnostic evaluation and helps to ensure the safety of the patient and others. A supportive environment with minimal stimulation is most helpful. As improvement progresses, help with coping skills, problem-solving techniques, and psychoeducational approaches may be added for patients and their families. Patients may benefit from a structured intermediate environment, such as a day hospital, during the initial phases of returning to the community.

Approximately one million people in the UK have COPD. It mainly affects people over the age of 40. It represents a work stoppage more time than any other disease. Smoking is the primary risk factor for COPD. Approximately 80 to 90 percent of COPD deaths are caused by smoking. Breathing in other kinds of lung irritants, such as pollution, dust, or chemicals over a long period of time may also cause or contribute to COPD. Cough is usually the first symptom to develop.
It is productive with sputum (phlegm). It tends to come and go at first, then gradually became more persistent (chronic). Shortness of breath and wheeze may occur. Lung infections are more common. Buerger's Disease Information and Treatment

Alternative Medicine:

Buerger's disease also called as thromboangiitis obliterans. Buerger's disease is an acute inflammation and thrombosis (clotting) of arteries and veins of the hands and feet. Buerger's disease ultimately damages or destroys tissues and may result to infection and gangrene. It is strongly related with use of tobacco products, primarily from smoking, but also from smokeless tobacco. Heavy cigarette smokers are most likely to develop buerger's disease. Buerger's disease is most generally found in the Orient, Southeast Asia, India and the Middle East, but seems to be infrequent among african americans.
Buerger's disease most normally affects men between ages 20 and 40, though it's becoming more common in women. Symptoms of buerger's disease involve tenderness or pain in the feet or hands during exercise , or when at rest. Other possible symptoms embrace tingling and numbness in the limbs, and Raynaud's phenomenon. There's no cure of buerger's. The only effective treatment is to stop smoking. Patients must stop smoking immediately. Conventional medical treatments may help alleviate the symptoms of buerger's disease. Vascular surgery can sometimes be helpful in treating limbs with poor perfusion secondary to this disease.
Anti-inflammatory agents have proven profitable in excess vasculitides, they are not beneficial in treating buerger's. Intravenous iloprost use is probably of greatest value in slowing progressive tissue loss and reducing the need for amputation in patients with critical limb ischemia during the period when they first discontinue cigarette smoking. The use of thrombolytic therapy in the treatment of Buerger disease has been proposed. Recently, Isner and colleagues reported improved healing of ischemic ulcers and relief of rest pain in a small series of patients with Buerger disease using intramuscular gene transfer of vascular endothelial growth factor.
Exposure of affected areas to warm or cold should be avoided. Trauma to the feet and other affected areas should be avoided and infections must be treated immediately. Streptokinase has been suggested as adjuvant therapy in many cases. Use of well-fitting protective footwear to obviate foot trauma and thermal or chemical injury. Self care is very important your body against buerger's disease. Be careful of your fingers and toes if you have buerger's disease. Small cuts and scrapes can simply turn into serious infections. Clean any cuts with water and cover them with a clean bandage.

Bunion Information and Treatment

Alternative Medicine:

Bunions are one of the most familiar foot problems. Bunions are often reported as a bump on the side of the big toe. Bunions most usually affect women. Bunions happen nearly 10 times more often in women then men. The large toe may turn in toward the second toe (angulation), and the tissues surrounding the joint may be swollen and fragile. Bunions cause from inflammation and thickening of the bursa (fluid-filled sac in the connective tissue) and abnormal bone composition and misalignment of the toe. Bunions may be caused by taut, pointy-toed, or high-heeled shoes, and shoes that are too small.

Women get bunions most more frequently than men. Improper shoes infuriate the underlying cause of unstable flat feet. A bunion can be caused, or made sick, by arthritis, a condition where the protective cartilage covering the joints becomes diseased or damaged. Some people also attend to put more stress than normal on the inside of the foot when they run or walk, making them more prone to bunions. Symptoms of bunion is swollen or red bony bump at the base of the big toe. The bunion is painful and the skin over it becomes dense and calloused from friction against the shoe. The skin end the bunion may break down and type an ulcer.

Many people who have bunions have them on both toes. There are many treatment options for bunions and they will vary with the type and severity of each bunion and will also rely on what is causing the symptoms. Surgery is the only way to completely remove the deformity that causes bunions. The bony growth is removed, and the bones of the big toe realigned. Anti-inflammation medications, such as aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen, can reduce inflammation and pain. You can prevent bunions by wearing restful, well-fitting shoes. Use felt pads to help retain pressure off the painful area of the bunions.

Local cold pack is use sometimes helpful as well. If you must wear heels, make sure the shoe is not taut and narrow at the toes and try to avoid wearing heels for large periods of time. Orthotics can help slow the progression of the bunion and also treat the associated symptoms. Bunion night splints can reduce the size of the bunion. This will straighten the bunion while you sleep. A Bunion Shield can reduce the pain over the bunion. Apply a moisturizer such as flexitol heel balm twice daily to hard skin or corns and use a pumice stone to reduce the thickness of the hard skin.

Heartburn Information and Prevention

Alternative Medicine:

Heartburn or pyrosis is a painful or burning sensation in the esophagus. Heartburn is a form of indigestion. Heartburn is a burning feeling in the lower chest, along with a sour or bitter taste in the throat and mouth. It usually occurs after eating a big meal or while lying down. Heartburn is also identified as one of the causes of chronic cough, and may even mimic asthma. Heartburn is linked to eating habits and posture. It happens when acid from your stomach gets forced upwards into the oesophagus ,This is called acid reflux. About 30% of adults experience occasional heartburn, while 10% experience heartburn every day.

About 25% of pregnant women have heartburn or related symptoms. Heartburn is an irritation of the esophagus caused by acid that refluxes from the stomach. Some other factors that can make heartburn worse include certain foods, such as fatty foods, spicy foods, chocolate, caffeine, onions, tomato sauce, carbonated beverages and mint, alcohol ,large meals ,lying down too soon after eating and certain medications, including sedatives, antidepressants and calcium channel blockers for high blood pressure. Cigarette smoking is main cause of heartburn. The primary symptom of heartburn is a burning pain in your chest, under your breastbone.

This pain may decay when you bend over, lie down or eat. It may also be more frequent or worse at night. Most people can control the irritation of heartburn with lifestyle modifications and over-the-counter medications. Several kinds of medicine can be used to treat heartburn. H2 blockers (Pepcid, Tagamet, Zantac) reduce the amount of acid your stomach makes. Other medicines, such as omeprazole (Prilosec) and lansoprazole (Prevacid), also reduce how much acid the stomach makes. Metoclopramide (Reglan) reduces acid reflux. If the heartburn continues, you may need prescription surgery.

Heartburn Treatment and Prevention Tips

1. Smoking may increase stomach acid.

2. Antispasmodic drugs and motility stimulants may be prescribed.

3. Alginates are useful when there is reflux of stomach acid.

4. Eat smaller meals reduces pressure on the lower esophageal sphincter.

5. Acid suppressants, such as histamine H2-antagonists also helpful.

6. Antacids, such as maalox, rolaids and Tums, neutralize stomach acid and can provide quick relief.

Cervical Spine Fracture Treatment Information

Alternative Medicine:

A fracture (break) of the cervical spine is commonly referred to as a broken neck. Approximately 5-10% of unconscious patients who present to the ED as the result of a motor vehicle accident or fall have a major injury to the cervical spine. Injuries to this region of the spine are frequently a combination of sprain, dislocation and fracture. The most serious can injure the spinal cord, leading to paralysis or death. This type of accident may not cause a fracture but instead injure the muscles and ligaments of the neck. The resulting injury is a neck sprain, which is commonly called whiplash.

Cervical spine injuries are ranked according to several mechanisms of injury. These include flexion, flexion-rotation, extension, expansion and compression vertical rotation, lateral flexion, and vaguely understood the mechanisms that can lead to odontoid fractures and atlanto-occipital dislocation. Cervical spine fractures and other injuries to the neck less frequent because people are more educated on how the fractures occur and how to prevent them. Protect yourself and your family to always wear a seat belt, supervision of children and teenagers who are swimming and diving in lakes and ponds.

Cervical Spine Fracture Treatment and Prevention Tips

1. Always wearing a seatbelt.

2. Surgical is also recommeded

3. Take whirlpool treatments, if available.

4. Using the proper equipment and training during athletic participation.

5. Drink only water before manipulation or surgery to treat the fracture.

6. Massage gently and often to provide comfort and decrease swelling.

7. Use a "spotter" when attempting difficult moves in gymnastics.

8. Use appropriate protective equipment, such as padded collars and shoulder pads.

Foot Blister Treatment Information and Prevention

Alternative Medicine:

Blisters are fluid-filled pockets beneath the best bed of rind. There are many potential causes of blisters including a blow, disease, a hypersensitive response, or from your rind rubbing against something. Blisters caused by your rind rubbing against something are called clash blisters and almost usually happen on feet or hands. Foot blisters are a popular happening for many folk. Foot blisters are typically caused by shoes, socks, skates, or new footwear rubbing against the rind. There are many different causes of foot blisters. Some of the most common causes of foot blisters are heat, moisture and friction.

Other causes of foot blister include clash forces caused by improper shoes or socks, fungal infections of the rind, hypersensitive reactions or burns, and undue foot sweat. When the rind becomes annoyed, fluid collects underneath the outer bed of rind. This can be rather traumatic. The surrounding region may be crimson, tender, or bloated. Blisters can be really tiny or rather big. Some ways to forbid blisters are wearing shoes that equip decently. Socks are too significant in protecting your feet from blisters. Try and select socks that are not overly stiff and not overly lax. Avoid pipe socks, as these do not equip good enough to the foot.

Cotton socks should be avoided, as cotton absorbs moisture and tends to be rougher than other materials. Wearing wet shoes, boots and socks will increase your chance of developing blisters. Always use a sterilized needle to drain a blister. The needle should be sterilized by heating it with a flame until it is red hot and then allowed to cool. You can also sterilize a needle with rubbing alcohol. Use the needle to puncture the edge of the blister in several places. Make the punctures wide enough so they do not reseal. Cover the area with antibiotic ointment and a bandage. Use foot powder to help keep your feet dry.

Foot Blister Treatment and Prevention Tips

1. Use foot powder to help keep your feet dry.

2. Try and select socks that are not too tight and not too loose.

3. Avoid tube socks, as these do not fit close enough to the foot.

4. Try wearing two pairs of socks to ease friction against foot.

5. Long distance walkers often apply tincture of benzoin to the skin every day.

6. Softening the skin with a moisturizer is another way to avoid foot blisters.

Bronchiectasis Causes Symptoms Information with Treatment

Alternative Medicine:

Bronchiectasis is a lung condition in which some of the bronchi and bronchioles have lost their elasticity and have expanded and filled with fluid. With bronchiectasis, these natural cleaning mechanisms have become damaged or destroyed. Although bronchiectasis can develop at any age, it generally begins during childhood. The mucus is then normally wafted away by the beating of tiny hairs called cilia which line the tubes see figure.Normally the airways in the lung are sterile - they are not infected. Also, inflammation and an increased number of blood vessels in the bronchial wall can result in a person coughing up blood. Blockage of the damaged airways can lead to abnormally low levels of oxygen in the blood. Typically, bronchiectasis causes widening of medium-sized bronchi, but often smaller bronchi become scarred and destroyed. Occasionally, a form of bronchiectasis affecting larger bronchi occurs in allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis, a condition caused by an allergic response to the Aspergillus fungus.

Causes of Bronchiectasis

The common Causes of Bronchiectasis :

Inhaling stomach acid which has been regurgitated back into the gullet

Healing of the tubes resulting in puckering and scarring, causing obstruction

Underlying genetic disease such as cystic fibrosis, where the mucus in the bronchial tubes is too thick, and primary ciliary dyskinesia, where the cilia lining the bronchial tubes do not beat properly

Immunodeficiency disorders, such as HIV infection and AIDS.

Cystic fibrosis, which leads to almost half of the cases of bronchiectasis in the United States.

Tuberculosis (TB) and other similar infections

Mechanical obstruction of the bronchial tubes by inhaled foreign bodies, for example, peanuts

Too little immunity to infection, for example after infantile pneumonia from whooping cough or measles, or lack of antibodies which occasionally occurs after a virus infection in adult life.

Symptoms of Bronchiectasis

Some Symptoms of Bronchiectasis :

Fatigue.

Paleness .

Weight loss .

Shortness of breath worsened by exercise.

Coughing up blood .

Wheezing .

Skin discoloration, bluish .

Cough worsened by lying on one side.

Breath odor .

Treatment of Bronchiectasis

If you are able, a daily exercise such as running, walking, swimming, dancing, aerobics, etc, helps to clear the mucus too.

Smoking makes symptoms worse and smokers are very strongly advised to stop.

Surgery may be an option if you have a small local area of lung damage causing symptoms. Cutting out the damaged airway may cure the problem. Surgery may be considered even if you have widespread bronchiectasis. This may be to cut out a particularly bad area of lung that is acting as a reservoir for mucus and infection. Occasionally, a lung transplant may be considered in severe cases.

Corticosteroids help reduce inflammation in your lungs. They work best when you take them with an inhaler.

Mucus thinners , such as acetylcysteine, loosen the mucus.

treatment of nose or sinus infection and runny nose using nasal drops and sprays.

If you have mild bronchiectasis, you may need a course of antibiotics every 'now and then' to clear chest infections as and when they occur. A change of the colour of your sputum to green and feeling unwell usually indicates that you have a chest infection. If you have severe bronchiectasis, you may find that chest infections return quickly once you stop taking antibiotics. In this situation you may be advised to take antibiotics every day to keep chest infections away.

Improvement of airflow through the bronchial tubes by anti-asthma treatment.
