Flaxseed vs. Flaxseed Oil From Flax Your Way to Better Health

Alternative Medicine:

"Flaxseed oil is a wonderful source of alpha-linolenic acid. However, when you buy flax in the form (oil), this is all you're getting. In other words, flaxseed oil is lacking in all the other important nutrients that provide so much benefit, particularly fiber, lignans, and protein."
Nature's Gem Premium Omega 3 Golden Flaxseed is high in fiber, lignans and protein.
"...flaxseed oil comes in two different forms: regular and high-lignan oil. This latter variety struck me as odd when I first began researching flaxseed and flax-based products, since the oil is, by definition, lacking in lignans. I did some investigating, contacting several companies that produce the "high-lignan" version to check out just what process they use in its manufacture. Unfortunately, I could not verfiy that lignans are somehow added back in to the oil. Therefore, I suffest you be wary when confronting such claims."
Nature's Gem Premium Omega 3 Golden Whole Flaxseed is guaranteed for (3) three YEARS!
"And here is one last caveat about flaxseed oil. Because of its chemical composition, flax oil must be kept refridgerated at all times. Even refridgerated, it's got a pretty short shelf life - you have to use it within six to eight weeks after opening the bottle - after that it goes rancid. How do you know if your flaxseed oil has gone bad? You'll get a bitter taste or even a burning sensation on your tongue, and it will start to smell like paint thinner. Unrefridgerated, it spoils much faster, as I discovered during an experiment I did on my own. I left a bottle of flaxseed oil out on my kitchen counter, checking it daily. After just a few days, the odor it gave off had changed dramatically! Not a flavor I wanted to add to my meals, that's for sure!
Keep in mind that flaxseed oil is expensive. Since it spoils relatively quickly, and since the research show that whole or ground flaxseed has far more beneficial properties, it seems wiser to skip the oil and go straight for the seeds."

Cinnamon Spice Offers Health Benefits

Alternative Medicine:

Cinnamon is widely used both in the food and pharmaceutical industry because of its antiseptic properties. The cinnamon bark oil is used as a flavoring for digestive aids, liniments, and oral care products. It is also used in many perfumes, soaps, and lotions. In addition, cinnamon leaf oil is used in the food industry as flavorings to candies, sauces, and pastries. The commonly used ingredient is actually the soft, inner bark of the cinnamon tree.
This spice is now being heralded as the latest in the long line of herbal medicine wonders? According to research findings, one teaspoon of cinnamon contains 28 milligrams of calcium, one milligram of iron, fiber, and vitamins C, K, and manganese.
The use of cinnamon dates back in Chinese medicine to 2800 BC, and is known as kwai?in the Chinese language. Ancient Egyptians used it in the embalming process of corpses because of its fragrance. Medieval physicians used this spice to treat coughs, hoarseness, sore throats, and other types of infections. Cinnamon also has antibacterial and inflammatory properties that help reduce joint and muscle pain, especially the discomforts associated with arthritis.
Many health specialists advice diabetics to take daily dose of cinnamon to regulate blood sugar levels. It can also benefit one's health by improving the body's digestive system and relieve many stomach discomforts.
In aromatherapy, cinnamon oil is used to stimulate and warm the senses, restore vigor, and treat stress and anxiety. Cinnamon oil is also important in strengthening the immune system because its scent is said to treat early stages of cold and fever. The oil of cinnamon is also used as a physical and emotional stimulant, with many believing that it can actually enhance one's libido.
Medical research also indicates that the scent of cinnamon may reduce drowsiness, irritability, pain, and frequent migraines. In some studies, the essential oil provides relief to tight muscles, ease painful joints, and relieve menstrual cramps in women. Cinnamon also increases the action of enzymes that break down the food in the body and help improve one's metabolism.
Traditional uses of cinnamon
Many traditional cultures around the globe have been using cinnamon not just as an ingredient in their favorite dishes but as a medicine as well. In fact, cinnamon has been highly valued for its medicinal properties for hundreds, perhaps even thousands of years.
Here are the other health benefits of Cinnamon:
?Studies have shown that just 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon included in a daily diet can lower cholesterol.
?Cinnamon may have a regulatory effect on blood sugar, making it especially beneficial for people with diabetes.
?Cinnamon has shown an amazing ability to stop medication-resistant yeast infections.
?A study released by researchers at the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Maryland showed that cinnamon reduced the proliferation of leukemia and lymphoma cancer cells.
?It has an anti-clotting effect on the blood.
.Relief from congestion - Cinnamon and other spices have long been consumed to relieve congestion that comes from colds, allergies, and other common conditions.
.Muscle and joint pain relief- Those who eat cinnamon on a regular basis often report that their muscle and joint pain, as well as stiffness, is reduced or even eliminated.
?When added to food, it prevents bacterial growth and food spoilage, making it a natural food preservative.
?Smelling cinnamon may boost cognitive function and memory.
?Researchers at Kansas State University found that cinnamon fights the E. coli bacteria in unpasteurized juices.
Indeed, cinnamon has many benefits that can be used to improve one's health and well-being. If taken together with a balanced, healthy diet and plenty of exercise --- one can bring back the spice of life that everyone longs for.

Preventive Health Care: Does it Exist?

Alternative Medicine:

True preventive health care is nonexistent for most Americans. That's because traditional medicine focuses on treatment of symptoms, and that's not prevention. Our health care system operates like the old barn door ?it's left open and then the farmer tries to figure out why the horses ran off.
Preventive or "alternative" medicine is available, but it's not the norm. You have to be informed enough, open minded enough and have enough money to get it. If you find a traditionally trained physician who integrates alternative medicine into his or her practice, and still takes your insurance, you are in luck.
Most often you will not be in luck because alternative practitioners are usually fed up with the traditional system. Part of their gripe is dealing with insurance providers who dictate what medications the insurer will pay for. So doctors stop taking insurance. The result is that patients seeking alternative medicine must either pay the entire cost of care or do without.
Our overburdened health care system is controlled by the pharmaceutical and insurance industries. The pharmaceutical industry holds the "solution" (prescription drugs) to medical problems. That prescription drugs usually don't cure a condition doesnt matter. Drug companies are not interested in finding cures. A cured condition does not require medication. No profit it that!
However, it is profitable just to manage symptoms (high blood pressure for example) with medication for years, or until the patient changes lifestyle habits or the patient dies.
If you think about how long it is taking to find a cure for cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer's and other devastating diseases, you must conclude that something doesnt add up. We are the most technologically and scientifically advanced country on the planet and it still takes forever to find cures.
Take the amount of time and money spent over the years to find a cure for cancer. Yes, there are cures (which often become relapses), but treatments that poison the entire body in an effort to get at the cancer and usually end up killing the patient are barbaric. There has to be a better way.
Look how long we have been dallying with Alzheimer's disease. Research money provided by corporations and advocacy organizations continues to fund the same unproductive "plaques and tangles" theory as the cause of AD.
At the same time, credible Alzheimer's research at universities (with the help of government funding ?not usually the pharmaceutical industry) clearly shows there is a probable answer to AD but more research needs to confirm preliminary findings. Why isnt promising research followed up by the entities that claim to want prevent or cure AD?
This brings me to a true story. The husband of a close friend, Mary, was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. In the early stage, he had some hand tremor but what was most disturbing to Mary was evidence of cognitive decline. A math whiz, her husband now had difficulty with simple arithmetic.
The doctor said medication was not yet indicated. He could offer nothing to help the cognitive problem. Mary asked if I knew anything that might help.
I had recently seen research that showed progression of Parkinson's could be slowed a staggering 44 percent by taking 1,200 mg. of CoQ10 a day. (Normal daily dose is 50-150 mg). The Life Extension Foundation protocol for treatment of Parkinson's indicates up to 3,000 mg daily. There are no known side effects or contraindications for high doses of CoQ10.
Mary started her husband on 1,200 mg a day and about two weeks later bumped up the dose up to 2,400 mg.
Within a month, her husband's cognition was almost back to normal. Was it luck? Was it a "miracle" that would have occurred without the CoQ10, or was it the CoQ10 that produced the benefit? Will the improvement last?
Shall we wait for Alzheimer's advocates or the pharmaceutical industry to fund adequate trials of CoQ10? We should not hold our breath. CoQ10 is not patentable.
When the traditional health care system fails us all we can do is take personal responsibility and act on our own behalf to the best of our ability.
Taking personal responsibility includes developing a prevention-oriented mindset ?learning how to stay well without reliance on a health care system that talks a lot about prevention but doesnt seem to know how to provide it.

Health Benefits of the Chinese Green Tea Diet

Herbs Medicine:

Dating back more than 4,000 years, Chinese green tea diet has been long revered as a tasty drink that can ward off diseases and improve one's well-being. There are only a few herbs that can surpass its impressive history.
Since its first recorded use during the time of Emperor Shen Nung, the link between Chinese green tea diet and good health has never been severed. Today, further studies are made to test the benefits of the remarkable health elixir.
Traditional Health Benefits of the Diet
According to tradition, this diet could cure anything from headaches, body aches, and pains to constipation and depression. Over the centuries, more health claims are made on account of the Chinese green tea diet.
It detoxifies the body. The presence of polyphenols, a naturally occurring antioxidant in this particular tea, is said to combat harmful free radicals and help keep the body free from diseases. In this regard, Chinese green tea helps maintain the overall well-being of the body. It fights against the anti-aging process because the antioxidants can boost immunity, preserve young-looking skin, and brighten the eyes.
Additional health benefits of the green tea is it increases the blood flow throughout the body. Because it contains a little caffeine, ingesting this drink stimulates the heart and allows the blood to flow more freely through the blood vessels. For the same reason that tea stimulates blood flow, it also stimulates mental clarity.
For many years, men of science remained skeptical about the health claims made by Chinese green tea diet enthusiasts because the health benefits are truly vast in number. Their doubt was changed to a more positive reception when subsequent researchers proved its disease-preventing attributes and confirmed most of the health claims.
The Heart
Study after study has shown that drinking green tea and eating polyphenol-rich foods reduces the risk of any heart complications. It helps strengthen the blood vessels that provide oxygen and valuable nutrients to the heart and brain. It has also been researched that men who use the diet have a 75 percent less possibility of having a stroke than those who don't use the diet.
The green tea diet helps lower total cholesterol levels and improve the ratio between LDL cholesterol and HDL cholesterol. Study shows that men who drink nine or more cups of Chinese green tea daily have lower cholesterol levels than those who drink fewer than two cups. While nine cups may seem a lot, break it up through out the day and you'll realize it's not that difficult to drink that many cups. You could have one during and after each meal and during your breaks.
You really need to learn more. The Silent Killer Exposed uncovers and gives you the information you need to maintain a healthy blood system. Visit it here now.
Longevity
The role of the 'Chinese diet' in promoting longevity has been investigated upon by many researchers. They found the premise of their study on observing Japanese women who are greater-than-average green tea drinkers; have lower mortality rates compared to others. This led the researchers to believe that the diet has "a protective factor against premature death."
The polyphenols found in the diet may be held accountable. With its high amount of polyphenols, it seems to have a stimulating effect on the immune system. A stronger immune system as a result of drinking the green tea helps reduce risks of obtaining many illnesses.
If these health benefits of doing the Chinese green tea diet don't motivate you to start drinking this miracle in a cup, chances are you'll never become motivated to loose weight. So start today and drink up. The health benefits go well beyond weight loss!

Health Benefits Of Nettle

Holistic Remedies:

The stinging nettle (which is called ortie in France and Brennessel in Germany) was said to be introduced into Britain by Caesar's soldiers. They sowed it along the sides of the great straight roads; both the roads and the nettles survive. At the end of a day's march the cooler climate of England and the weary miles made their legs ache. They would gather the nettles and beat each other with them so warming the affected parts. Really an embrocate for the strong.
Culpeper says wittily that they may be found by feeling on the darkest night! He tells us that the juice with honey is a safe and sure medicine to open the pipes and passages of the lungs.
Today the herbal practitioner has found many uses for the humble nettle. The extract with alcohol is a stimulating hair tonic. Urtication, or beating with nettles, is sometimes used as a counter irritant for rheumatic sufferers. It is given to lessen bleeding in the mouth, in the form of a juice, and the juice will apparently greatly relieve painful piles or haemorrhoids if taken a tablespoonful (l5ml) at a time, three times a day.
The active constituents are many and include 5-hydroxytryptamine, histamine, formic acid and gallic acid, plus much readily assimilable iron. Research by Drs Herrmann and Neumann established that an increased metabolic rate took place over a period which lasted from the sixth to the twenty-second hour after taking a glassful. They said that this was very helpful when used in conjunction with therapies for removing -toxins from the blood, and for rheumatism.
For the same reason, nettle juice is a good addition to any iron therapy for anemia. It helps control diarrhea and is at the same time a diuretic which aids the elimination of uric acid. It is powerful so is usually taken a wineglassful at a time. The part of the plant to pick is the top leaves; you may wear gloves or 'Grasp it like a man of mettle and it soft as silk remains.'
Research by Dr Keeser found that the nettle could reduce the blood sugar level. The juice is often good for nervous eczema. The White Dead Nettle (Lamium album) although similar in appearance belongs to a completely different botanical family, but it acts as an astringent and is also effective for diarrhea.
Kevin Pederson has been managing a number of natural home remedies websites which have information on all the natural and home made remedies with the value and benefits of Nettle.

Impotence Help - The 5 Best-Kept Natural Health Secrets to Treat Erectile Dysfunction at Home

Natural Remedies:

Millions of men are looking for impotence help. But most are
getting the wrong advice from doctors and are sticking with
medications which have more side effects than agent orange.
Yet a few million men are discovering why natural health may be
the best solution to their erectile dysfunction.
For years, impotence help has often been taboo. Fortunately,
we know more about this common disease then we have ever
known before. And thankfully, men everywhere are now taking
their health more seriously.
Fact! If you are proactive about your health, you may be able to
feel like a 20 year old again by boosting your circulation
downstairs by almost 20%.
Allow Natural Health to Cure Male Impotence
Did you know that most male impotence problems stem from a
physical issue? It is reported that most men deal with E.D.
problems because of decreased circulation. And that spells
good news and bad news.
The bad news is that male impotence is simply a bodily warning
sign for circulation problems (possibly high blood pressure, low
blood pressure, heart disease, etc.). Many men who deal with
E.D. also deal with other issues. Think of impotence as a
warning sign to pull over and do some maintenance on your car
(body and circulation).
The good news is that impotence is usually a circulation problem
which is a physical problem that can be remedied with living a
healthier life. For instance, this year a few million men will cure
their impotence problem naturally with their diet, vitamins,
minerals, exercise, herbs and a healthier lifestyle.
And the better news is that you can add 10-30 years on your
life, feel healthier and lose weight in the process. Not to
mention you can be impotence-free in hours.
The 5 Best Kept Secrets to Cure an Erectile Dysfunction and be
Healthier
1. Your body is changing constantly and it is either changing for
the better or worse. Therefore what you put in your body is
extremely critical to your health and impotence cure. With that
said, you should be eating the right foods that keep your
arteries clean and flushed.
Avoid: fast foods, processed foods, red meats, animal products,
fattening foods and foods with high cholesterol
Eat: many raw and fresh fruits and vegetables, fiber-rich foods,
whole grains and low fat foods.
2. Exercise each day. You deserve at least 20-30 minutes a day
to yourself. Therefore, take that time to clear your mind, breath
and go for a walk (anything with exercise). Exercise makes your
body run efficiently and boosts circulation levels.
3. Get to know your vitamins. Most people don't know what
core vitamins promote health circulation levels. A great vitamin
to start with is vitamin A which is often deficient in E.D.
sufferers. You can supplement this vitamin or get your daily
amount in the following foods: carrots, pumpkins, sweet
potatoes, spinach, tuna, cantaloupe, mangoes, apricots,
broccoli, and watermelon.
4. Breath! Take a big breath and hold it! You just helped boost
your circulation (a little). But did you know that you can actually
boost your circulation levels with simple breathing exercises.
One exercise is actually taking deep breaths and holding it. If
practiced regularly, this can boost circulation levels in days. (It
also reduces stress which is a cause of impotence.)
5. Herbal Therapy! There are numerous herbs that have been
researched and have shown to boost circulation which can cure
impotence. One herb you may wish to consider is gingko which
some doctors are now recommending over E.D. medication. You
can find a quality supplement at your local health store.

Managing Negative Mental Health through Yoga

By Arun Goel Mental health disorders are on the rise throughout the world. This results in anxieties, fears, depression, inferiority and similar emotions. Therefore, learning the management of negative mental health is a must for all of us.
Yoga offers comprehensive solutions for managing this negative mental health.
Before discussing how to manage, we must understand the genesis of negative conditions in the mind. According to yoga, all negative emotions take root from the matter present in the subconscious. But how does this matter enter the subconscious? The basic cause of this is attachment. We humans develop attachments to persons, things or emotions. This attachment raises desires and expectations. These desires ultimately lead to tensions, frustrations and conflicts. This affects the ego, which feels insecure. As a defense mechanism, the ego represses such emotions into the subconscious so that the mind is peaceful again. However, these repressions are not dead. They are after all repressed feelings. They remain active in the subconscious resulting in the negative emotions we talked of earlier

Choose Alternative Health

Cancer can be cured.
http://CANCERCUREHERE.COM

Alternative Medicine:

Alternative health practices are gaining popularity simply because they work. Conventional health care treats diseases that have already struck, alternative health care seeks to create and maintain the best health while stopping disease and physical ailments before they begin. Old fashioned methods of keeping healthy are worth another look. That is why alternative health regimens are becoming popular again. The most coveted benefit of alternative health methods is the holistic approach taken by practitioners. The idea that the mind body and spirit work together to maintain wellness.
Your Health
As large as the health care industry is, alternative health methods are the fastest growing piece of the health care pie. This may be because alternative health offers additional benefits like increased self-awareness, inner peace, a connected feeling with ones body, leading to increased mental and physical health. To realize the types of alternative health therapies currently gaining favor, see Alternatively-Healthier.com. If you feel smothered by the lack of choice of your conventional health care practice, look at comparable alternative health measures that can elevate your general wellbeing and feed the mind and soul.
The Body
Do you know what your body needs? People seek out alternative health care practitioners because they tend to treat the whole body including the mind and spirit. Chiropractic care is a type of alternative health care or alternative medicine that specifically focuses on the body's skeletal structure. This structure is not just bones but nerves and muscles and their associated functionality.
Normal living, not just accidents or sports injuries, cause subluxations or misalignments to the spine. These misalignments can cause any number of illnesses in addition to the discomfort or pain whether temporary or chronic to the back and neck areas. Chiropractic involves physical manipulation of the skeletal structure at the spine which radiates out to the rest of the body. Surgery and operations are never part of the chiropractic curriculum. Those who enjoy this natural approach to body care often feel they have more control over the health of the body.
Holistic
Considering that some scientific research shows that around 80% of health issues are caused and/or negatively affected by stress and over 90% of today's cancers have an environment cause, seeing health care as a holistic enterprise begins to make sense. Alternative health care professionals emphasize holistic health care for their patients.
Among the subject matter in these holistic medicine programs are in-depth studies in anatomy and physiology, pathology and disease, detoxification methods, energy healing, herbal medicine (both Eastern and Western modalities), homeopathy, orthomolecular nutrition/holistic nutrition, flower essences and remedies, holistic counseling, iridology, and other natural medicine. There are also courses in holistic medicine that are both degreed and non-degreed.
Currently, you can find alternatively health education and beginner's workshops in holistic practices open to the public. It would not be unusual to find seminars in home herbal remedies, self massage, holistic nutrition, herbal supplements and vitamins, reflexology and other natural health topics.
Alternative health practice looks at how the Mind-Body-Spirit relates to its external surroundings. Alternative health may include taking vitamin supplements, doing yoga and eating organic vegetables, but more importantly it is about creating health while obstructing disease before it begins.
The growing interest in alternative health is a boon to chiropractic practice as routine health maintenance. The paradox between technology and alternative health is actually a strength of our society. That is why it is so important to remember that we always have a choice. Alternative health is growing as people search for a more holistic solution to their health complaints and look to hang on to their quality of life further into the future.
Leave your skepticism behind and journey through the portal for alternative health information. Gain valuable insight to herbal remedies that care for the body as a whole, instead of one individual complaint.

Chihorium intybus health benefits

Alternative Medicine:

Spread throughout the world and known from Antiquity for its therapeutic usages, chicory (Chihorium intybus) was used by the old Egyptians to treat the liver and gallbladder problems. They believed that the herb could purify the blood and eliminate the toxins from the liver and for that reason consumed chicory in large quantities. In France during Napoleonic times the chicory was used as a coffee substitute. England and the United States soon followed this example.
While the root of this herb is used as a coffee substitute, the other parts are used either in cooking (especially in salads), either as medicine. Compared to real coffee, chicory stimulates the nervous system by sustaining the mental capabilities and concentration. This herb is also recommended in fighting the sleepy states and asthenia. Owing to the substances that it contains (like chicorine and choline) the herb shows laxative-like characteristics.
Under the influence of the compounds with bitter taste, the digestion is stimulated and also the drainage of the liver and spine. These compounds reduce hunger but stimulate the sensation of fullness. In this sense a short rise of hunger followed by a considerable diminution of hunger was noticed. Chicory helps the body to better absorb calcium and other minerals.
When administrating the treatments based on chicory, in cases of people with a noticeable appetite, it is recommended that it should be done between eating hours. If the goal is to stimulate the appetite, the chicory mixtures should be administrated right before dinner.
For reducing glycemia it is recommended the consumption of two cups of chicory infusion a day or a cup of decoct before dinner. A cup of infusion of chicory before dinner stimulates digestion and is recommended during states of nervousness, asthenia, coughing.
To prepare the infusion of chicory, two spoons of chicory are mixed in a liter of boiled water for 10-15 minutes. For the decoct tea it's necessary for a small amount of dry chicory root to be mixed in a liter of boiling water and then to be left to cool down for approximately 15 minutes.
Chicory leaves are efficiently used as bandages for cuts and bruises. Cataplasms can be made of chicory infusion in cases of acne, furunculosis, cuts and bruises.

Taoism and Spontaneity, and Your Physical Health

Alternative Medicine:

Taoism is a way of life, practiced in China for thousands of years.

Lao Tzu, one of the greatest Chinese philosophers as well as the founder of Taoism, said, "The Tao's principle is simply spontaneity." Spontaneity is the key to healthy longevity.

What is spontaneity? How does it affect your physical health?

In the universe, there is an all-controlling force that monitors everything. You breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide. You eat and you eliminate. You grow, mature, and deteriorate. In nature, spontaneity is evident in the change of seasons. Spontaneity is the natural built-in mechanism in each living organism. Spontaneity creates balance and harmony.

Nowadays, people focus so much on physical fitness. The gym giants will do anything to keep you huffing, puffing, and paying; the pharmaceutical companies will come up with any supplements touted to keep you lean, muscular, and full of energy. There is so much pumping irony: strenuous and vigorous workouts may be harmful to your physical health.

According to the AMERICAN JOURNAL OF CARDIOLOGY, jogging is causing runners to drop dead from heart attacks. Many individuals have experienced heart attacks even after running on a treadmill.

The medical journal LANCET reports that aerobics is causing deadly artery clogs and heart disease in many individuals who never before had such problems.

You do not need to jog until you are blue in the face, or pump iron like Arnold Schwarzenegger in order to be physically healthy. You can be fit the Taoist way

Lao Tzu explained, "The softest things in the world overcome the hardest things in the world." You need not over-exert yourself in order to be physically fit.

Chinese exercises, such as Tai Chi and Qi Gong, are never vigorous. Once your breathing becomes abnormal or irregular over a long period, you lose the spontaneity of the exercise, and hence its health benefits.

Tai Chi is a self-relaxing exercise with slow and even movements coordinated with breathing and directed by a peaceful mind. Therefore, it is beneficial to both mental and physical health. With its thousands of years of practice, Tai Chi can rid all parts of your body of spiritual and physical ailments, clear your mind and strengthen your brain, and promote good digestion and healthy kidneys. Most importantly, Tai Ci exercises can help lower your blood pressure, soften your blood vessels, and regular the flow of "qi" (the internal vital energy) in your entire body.

What is "qi"?

"Qi" is internal vital energy. It is important because it moves your body. It is the source of growth in your body. "Qi" is always in motion in the form of ascending, descending, entering and leaving your body's organs and systems. It nourishes not only your body by transforming food energy into blood, but also your blood by keeping it flowing. In addition, it helps maintain your body's temperature. "Qi" plays a vital role in Chinese health and healing.

With regard to "qi", Lao Tzu said, "Qi is elusive and evasive, and yet it manifests itself."

Tai Chi exercises focus on correct posture, slow and spontaneous movements, and natural healthy breathing.

Your central nervous system is the most important system in your body: it receives vital information from outside and inside your body; it directs your movements. Your central nervous is healthy only if you keep your spinal column erect because vitality and blood circulation are transmitted efficiently from your lower body to your brain only when your spine is kept erect. Tai Chi exercises are based upon a natural posture (children have naturally erect spinal columns; only adults, especially older people, have bent spinal columns) with an erect spine.

Next to your central nervous system, your digestive system is important to your overall health as it stores and supplies all nourishments for your body. Some of the characteristic movements of Tai Chi reinforce the expansion and contraction of your body in an opening and closing motion, thereby instrumental in vibrating and stimulating your stomach and intestines for a better and healthier digestive system.

Your respiratory system is also critical to your long-term health. In Tai Chi, breathing is valued more than physical power: breathing ' not muscular strength ' propels the movements of your body. Western physical exercises, on the other hand, emphasize muscular strength instead of the spontaneity of breathing and natural body movements. In Tai Chi, your mind directs the "qi", letting it sink down into your abdomen, where natural breathing takes place. According to Taoism, you breathe through your abdomen (like babies and young children), not through your lungs. This explains why people in the West limit their breathing to the lungs; as a result, their lungs tend to enlarge as they grow older, crowding their hearts, leading to heart disease.

Your circulatory system is connected to your respiratory system. Tai Chi enhances your deep breathing, which guides your "qi" to move your blood (which cannot move itself) to different parts of your body for transporting oxygen and nutrients. By regulating the circulation, Tai Chi exercises through natural movements and deep breathing provide a healthy heart.

Hormones in your thyroid gland are responsible for physical growth of your body. In Tai Chi, you keep your neck erect without pressure, centered without inclining to the left or to the right; you integrate the slow and smooth movements of your head and neck. These movements not only enhance the activity of your thyroid gland but also act upon your kidneys to remove wastes.

In summary, you need the spontaneity of Taoism in physical movements as well as in natural breathing to optimize physical health benefits from exercise. Western exercises, focusing on pumping power and strength, may seem too "unnatural" for that.

The Politics of Health

Alternative Medicine:

I was thinking about the quarrel (well, fight to the death, actually) between conventional medicine and alternatives like herbal or holistic medicine. So, I did some research to see if I could figure out what's the big beef between these to approaches to healing. I always believed that herbal medicine pre-dated conventional medicine by thousands of years. It turns out that it doesn't, not by THOUSANDS, anyway! Conventional medicine appears to be younger than herbal medicine by only about 1,100 years.

Here's what I was able to turn up: The first text known to deal with health and healing is "The Vedas" and is attributed to a fellow in India by the name of "Srila Vyasadeva" around 1500 BC. It details the first known uses of herbs and Yoga for the treatment of ailments. These books are, roughly, the equivalent of Christianity's Bible in that it is a founding religious text, only in this case, for Hinduism. This text is believed to be the foundation of all medical practice that followed.

The father of conventional western style medicine is largely believed to be Hippocrates who developed and formally taught the foundation of modern western medicine. He wrote the "Hippocratic Oath" which is still widely used today. He did the bulk of his work around 400 BC in Greece. No big surprise there, you probably already knew that.

Around that same era, the first practice of herbal medicine in China is believed to have been developed by a man named Shennong, who practiced and taught herbal medicine during the Han Dynasty around 200 BC. Shennong's text, "Bencao Jing" is believed to be the first Chinese herbal medical text. However the Ayurvedic Medicine, developed in India over a century before, is believed to be the foundation of all medicine that followed including Chinese, Native American, Aztec and Greek approaches.

All of these approaches to healing seem to have co-existed peacefully up until around 1860 here in the United States when the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) was formed to regulate the safety of medicine in response to early "Snake Oil" remedies that either did not work or were believed to be causing illnesses.

The 2 most famous of these "Snake Oils" survive today. We call them Coca-Cola, which up until the early 1950s contained concentrations of cocaine, and Dr. Pepper with its 23 "Flavors". The 3 numbers on the label of Dr. Pepper products produced up until the early 1980s referred to the times of day the remedy should be taken.

It was around that time that Natural or Holistic approaches to healing began to fall out of favor with the medical establishment that grew out of the American Medical Association (AMA), which was founded in the late 1840s and the FDA. Herbal healing was lumped together with the infamous "Snake Oils" of the wild and wooly 1800s and therefore pushed out of mainstream medical practice as voodoo medicine.

At about he same time, drug companies were beginning to spring up to provide doctors and nurses with medications and preparations to cure a wide range of illnesses and gave us such wonder drugs as Quinine, Aspirin and Penicillin, all three of which are still widely used because they're just that good at what they do and have comparatively minor, to no, side effects.

The relationships between the AMA, the FDA and Drug Companies grew tighter and tighter, as time went by, mainly because they depended so much on one another. This further estranged them from Herbal and Alternative healing approaches. Alternative and herbal treatments, since then, have been generally limited to American Natives who had been using them for a couple hundred years and small town doctors who were open minded enough to learn such arts from them.

I'm reminded of the TV series "Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman". Glamorous as the series made the frontier practice of medicine look, it was largely accurate and, as it turns out, there actually WAS a Dr. Quinn who practiced around the 1870s in the territory now known as the State of Colorado.

For western approaches to medicine, this was roughly the time period when the rift between Conventional and Holistic Medicine began. The whole conflict was about Money and Power! Surprised? The United States is among the most wonderful (meaning "Full with Wonder") places on earth! I've seen a lot of it and I can testify to that! HOWEVER, we have made a few mistakes along the way, kind of like me personally (but that's a story for another day).

I believe this is one of the mistakes we made as a culture, this conflict between Conventional Medicine and Alternative or Holistic Medicine. I've actualized, personally, the benefits of both and it kind of distresses me that, on a purely political level, they simply will NOT work together! On a purely medical level they are positively meant for one another!

All you have to do to get what I mean is to go to a drug store in Canada or Mexico, or for that matter, just about any other country outside the US. Notice what remedies for common ailments they have on their shelves. Almost all of them are herb-based preparations!

Most common ailments will respond well to Alternative or Holistic treatments and most of those treatments have minor, or no, measurable side effects. On the other hand if you need to lose weight, for example, and you are willing to put up with significant side effects like, QUOTE "An increased need for bowel movements combined with a decreased ability to control them", then by all means get your doctor to prescribe "Meridian" for you. You may shit your pants at inopportune moments, but you'll look FABULOUS doing so!

My point is this: For catastrophic illness, Conventional Medicine has no equal! Conventional Medicine is rude and intrusive to your system and sometimes that's what is medically called for. In those situations, my advice for what it's worth is; Don't settle for anything less! But for common ailments, nothing can beat Alternative Holistic Medicine. It's, comparatively, kind to your system, carries few side effects and is consummately effective.

Don't be caught up in the politics of medical care. Your health is WAY too important to be left to such political rivalry. By all means, consult with your primary care Physician about ALL of your health concerns and make sure he, or she, knows what you're doing, but trust Nature to help your system heal itself when it can and trust your Doctor when it can't!

Much Love,
Gregory

Evening Primrose Oil And Health Benefits

Natural Remedies:

Evening primrose is an indigenous plant to North America. The flowers have a strong, sweet scent, and only bloom at night during the months of June through October. Evening primrose has been used for hundreds of years to treat various ailments of the skin and muscular system. Several Native American tribes discovered that the entire plant is edible, and could be used as a painkiller in addition to everyday consumption. In Europe it is a proven treatment for PMS. The bark and leaves of evening primrose are said to have astringent and sedative properties. It has been proven to be effective treatment in regards to gastro-intestinal disorders, asthma and chronic or whooping coughs.

Evening primrose is rich in amino acids and essential amino acids such as omega 6. Essential fatty acids magnetize oxygen as well as produce electrical currents. Once in the body amino acids and essential amino acids are transformed into hormone-like substances called prostaglandins, which condense allergic response and inflammation.

Existence without essential fatty acids is impossible because they are vital to the electrical reactions of cells. Essential fatty acids carry vitamins, enhance metabolism and transport oxygen to the tissues. They are indispensable to the adrenal glands, brain cells, retinas, sensory organs, synapses and testes. Essential fatty acids act as solvents to eliminate hardened fat inside the human body. They are also involved in generating the electric currents that maintain regular heartbeats, regulating chromosome stability and will even help with weight loss.

Here is a list of major constituents found in evening primrose: Alanine (0.5%), arginine (1.5%), aspartic acid (1.2%), beta-sitosterol (1.2-2.5%), calcium (1.3-1.8%), cellulose (27%), gamma-linolenic acid (0.5-10%), glutamic acid (2.7%), glycine (1%), fat (15-32%), fiber (43%), histidine (0.4%), isoleucine (0.5%), leucine (1%), lignin (16%), linoleic acid (12-22%), lysine (0.3%), methionine (0.6%), phenylalanine (0.7%), proline (0.6%), protein (15-17%), serine (0.9%) threonine (0.4%), tryptophan (up to 1.6%), tyrosine (0.4%), valine (up to 0.8%) and other lesser constituents.

Gamma linolenic acid is a polyunsaturated fatty acid. Gamma linolenic acid (or GLA) aids the body to manufacture energy, and it also helps to form parts of the structural fats that encompass bone marrow, the brain, cell membranes and muscles. Gamma linolenic acid is transformed by the body into prostaglandins. Prostaglandins help the body because of their anti-inflammatory properties. Prostaglandins can also act like a blood thinner and blood vessel dilator. They are hormone-like substances produced in the body's tissues.

Prostaglandin deficiency can result in disruption of the nerve impulse transmission, increase blood clotting time, inflammation and weaken immune response. Evening primrose oil with a high concentration of gamma linolenic acid is favorable for ailments related to essential fatty acid deficiency and the inability to metabolize essential fatty acids.

Evening primrose oil is beneficial in the treatment of arteriosclerosis, lowering blood cholesterol levels, asthma, allergies, PMS, headaches, rheumatoid arthritis, skin irritation, rashes, anxiety, water retention, breast soreness, depression, coughs, irritability, and the prevention of benign prostatic hypertrophy. It can also act as a stimulant for the digestive system, liver and spleen.

Evening primrose oil has also been indispensable in the treatment of acne, brittle nails, eczema, hyperactivity, multiple sclerosis, peripheral neuropathy and alcohol related liver damage. There are other conditions where evening primrose is currently being tested for effectiveness, including breast cancer, heart disease, high cholesterol, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, stomach ulcers and inflammatory bowel disease.

Scientists have said that the studies on evening primrose have been promising, however there is not enough conclusive data available at this time. People with seizure disorders should only use omega-6 supplements of any kind, under the care and supervision of a licensed medical doctor, because omega-6 including gamma linolenic acid has had reports of inducing seizures in seizure-vulnerable persons.

When purchasing evening primrose oil it is important that the company states the percentages of gamma linolenic acid as well as the percentage of linoleic acid. Most quality oils will have between 7-10% GLA and 40-75% LA (the higher the percentages the better). If the company you are ordering the evening primrose oil does not list the GLA or LA content with their product it is advised to call them and get the percentage information on the 2 major constituent levels in their evening primrose oil.

The best evening primrose contains 10.3% gamma linolenic acid and 75% linoleic acid, available as carrier oil. Evening primrose can be used all over the body. Use it as a base to blend a therapeutic mix of essential oils for your specific ailment or as facial and body treatment to combat acne, dry, scared, mature, discolored and irritated skin. Of course it can also be used alone to produce beneficial therapeutic action. Evening primrose is a beautiful flowering plant, and an invaluable therapeutic emollient for general well being.

Florapathics researches the alternative health benefits of essential oil for use in organic aromatherapy products. Find information on evening primrose oil at Florapathics.com

Yoga and Your Health Dealing with Fibromyalgia

By JJ Gormley

I have noticed an increasing number of my yoga students telling me that they have Fibromyalgia. I've researched the diagnosis and treatment of this disease in both the traditional and alternative worlds of medicine. Based on my growing experience with students suffering from Fibromyalgia, I've arrived at my own set of conclusions about this disease and ways of using yoga to help alleviate its symptoms. A caveat is needed here, however. I am not saying that I've discovered a cure nor even the reason why people get this disease. What follows are simply some collected observations from what I've experienced in working with Fibromyalgia sufferers. I pass them along not only for any specific merit they may have, but because I think they speak generally about the overall benefits of yoga in our lives.

Fibromyalgia comes from the Latin fibro, meaning connective tissue such as tendons and ligaments, myo meaning muscular, and algia, meaning pain. Sufferers experience chronic pain in their muscles and joints. Typically, the medical establishment treats this chronic pain most commonly with anti-inflammatory drugs, tricyclic antidepressants, acetaminophen, non-narcotic analgesics, and/or anti-anxiety agents. The pain often leads to depression and chronic fatigue, and inability to function mentally at work, with all its attendant consequences. Typically, the pain can leave the sufferer only able to sleep for a couple to a few hours at night, without the benefits of restorative sleep to ease the mind.

Conventional and alternative treatment therapies generally have not produced lasting relief for Fibromyalgia sufferers. Modern Medicine Magazine reports that systematic follow-up studies of patients using conventional treatments at Fibromyalgia specialty clinics show no overall improvement over the baseline condition, although different patients improved and deteriorated in specific areas. Chiropractic adjustments and acupuncture treatments are sometimes sought to try and alleviate pain, but from what I've been told by my yoga students, the relief is only temporary.

Natural Urinary Tract Infection Cure- Is Natural Health the New Starbucks

Natural Remedies:

I read an interesting article today about how Starbucks continues to dominate every corner in almost every city. The writer goes on to talk about how Starbucks has created a monopoly because of their cutting edge creativity, quality and satisfied customers. And that makes sense! I love Starbucks because I know it what I am going to get every time I order my caramel latte!

But what does this have to do with natural health?

Well, many say that Natural Health is the next Starbucks of the medical field. And as more and more researchers continue to caution consumers about the side-effect laden prescription medications and more and more lawsuits arise each day from medications, natural health will only get more popular. (Did you hear that men are losing their vision because of male impotence medication?)

"Can I get a cure for a urinary tract infection?hold the side-effects please?"

Natural Health and Starbucks

Starbucks is successful because it works! People are satisfied and they come back for more! But what about natural health? But did you know that natural health (remedies and cures from the 1800s) works too? Obviously, there is an exception to some remedies that were preposterous. Like a bottle of olive oil to dissolve a kidney stone!

However, many natural remedies are legit, researched and work! Why? Because most legitimate natural remedies use a holistic way of healing the body. 'Holistic' means treating the body as a whole organism and allowing your body to heal itself. (God created the body to do this!) Traditional medicine will only treat one aspect of the body; such as trying to kill specific bacteria or virus. But consider these natural remedies that work,

A high water-soluble fiber flush will cleanse a liver and pass a gallstone.

A high dosage of phosphoric acid will dissolve a kidney stone and a water-soluble flush will pass it.

Vitamin C and Sea Salt will treat Lyme Disease.

High Amounts of Water Intake will cure a hang-over because of lack of hydration.

And there are hundreds more!

But over the past 70 years, the medical field has created the shift of 'you taking care of your health' to 'allowing doctors and prescription companies taking care of you'. Even the simplest of cures (no drugs needed), are not even known by many doctors because they weren't taught them in medical school and residency. And while the medical field became a multi-trillion dollar industry, millions of people haven't even heard of the simplest and most effective cures that have worked for thousands of years (some dating back to Egyptian times).

With all this to say, Natural Health is finally 'turning heads' like Starbucks! Some million

Alternative Treatment of Brain Tumor - The Health Way

Alternative Medicine:

The brain is the central processing unit of the human body. A brain tumor is a mass or growth of abnormal cells in your brain. Brain Tumors are any tumors which occur in the brain due to uncontrolled cell division. Brain tumors typically are categorized as either primary or secondary. Primary brain tumors originate in your brain and can be noncancerous (benign) or cancerous (malignant). Secondary brain tumors result from cancer that began elsewhere and spread to your brain. Primary brain tumors are less common than secondary brain tumors. Benign Brain tumors can be easily removed.

Chances are that these tumors will not resurface once they are removed. However, the same cannot be said about malignant brain tumors. Malignant tumors are by far the most dangerous brain tumors. The growth of tumors in the brain is termed as brain cancer. Malignant tumors are life threatening and more serious than benign tumors. Brain tumors can also be spread from tumors growing in other parts of the human body. The symptoms of brain tumors depend on tumor size, type, and location. Symptoms may be caused when a tumor presses on a nerve or damages a certain area of the brain.

They also may be caused when the brain swells or fluid builds up within the skull. These are the most common symptoms of brain tumors include headaches (usually worse in the morning) , nausea or vomiting , changes in speech, vision, or hearing, problems balancing or walking, changes in mood, personality, or ability to concentrate, problems with memory, muscle jerking or twitching (seizures or convulsions) and numbness or tingling in the arms or legs. Treatment for a brain tumor along with survival odds depends on the type, size and location of the tumor, as well as your age and overall health.

The main treatment methods for brain tumors include surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. Surgery is the mainstay of brain tumor treatment. It involves removing as much of the tumor as possible while trying to minimize damage to healthy tissue. Brain cancer patients should take Vitalzym anyway, as it may reduce the inflammation of any brain cancer patient and help avoid seizures. Hydrotherapy uses ice, liquid, and steam to improve circulation and relieve pain. Therapeutic touch practitioners say they can relieve pain and other symptoms by moving their hands in slow, rhythmic motions several inches above the patient's body.
