Weight Loss Exercise for Women

Alternative Medicine:

A healthy diet and adequate exercise are necessary for weight loss. The loss of weight associated with a chronic illness is referred to as cachexia. Unexpected, unintentional weight loss is a common symptom of illness and should be evaluated by a healthcare professional. Losing weight and keeping it off is a real challenge for most people. Exercise helps to burn excess calories and build muscle, both of which are important for weight management. Exercise increases your metabolism, burns excess calories, and increases your muscle mass, which in turn burns more calories. Exercising too hard or trying to do too much too quickly in the beginning can lead to burnout, serious injuries, and frustration. Instead, you should gradually begin to increase the intensity of your workout. The reasons to lose weight are as numerous as the number of dieters, but health and self-esteem top most people's lists.

Excess weight is caused by an interaction of genetic and environmental factors, which include: physical and chemical and behavioral components. Because of the complexity of weight loss, gain, and maintenance, women need to understand that a quick and effortless weight loss is worthless. Extra weight can aggravate heart problems, and can cause diabetes and a host of other scary medical problems. Exercising on an empty stomach does not affect how you lose weight. In fact, it may hinder it if you don't have the energy to exercise. You should at least drink a glass of juice prior to your workout if you're exercising in the morning. Spot exercises, like sit-ups, crunches, hip raises, leg raises, hip adduction, hip abduction, etc. can only develop the muscles adjacent to the fat. They cannot burn fat from the area exercised.

Aerobic Exercise:

1. If you want to lose weight, cardio-aerobic exercise is one of the best types of physical activity. It also provides a range of general health and fitness benefits.

2. Aerobic exercise is any extended activity that makes you breathe hard while using the large muscle groups at a regular, even pace.

3. Aerobic activities help make your heart stronger and more efficient. They also use more calories than other activities.

4. Some examples of aerobic activities include: Brisk walking, jogging, swimming, cycling, aerobic dancing, racket sports, skating (all types), skiing, using aerobic equipment, or general aerobic exercises.

Yoga And Weight Loss

YOGA AND WEIGHT LOSS By Ankita Goel

Excess weight gain has become a phenomenon in today's age, when lifestyles have become sedentary, and food more liberal with extra calories. Today our children prefer T.V. over their friends and play, merely a reflection of their parents who also somewhere prefer T.V. over socializing or even over spending time with their children (if they spend some time surely some running around will help burn some calories). These are only a few factors, which have resulted in increasing amount of people with the problem of excess weight or obesity.

Stress, wrong food habits (i.e. irregular timings for food, unhealthy (junk) food), lack of exercise, thyroid problem etc. could be some of the reasons resulting in weight gain.

To lose weight, it is important to do so, not just by doing diets, or exercise programs, which are too tedious, which may yield results but which do not keep you that way. Sometimes after sudden loss of weight the skin sags making one feel worse. The best approach is to lose weight gradually and for good. Yoga offers a good solution to this problem. Yoga tones the body in a uniformed manner, unlike any " weight loss program" which claims to decrease your butts by this much inches and waist by this much, leading to side effects. Yoga can be practiced at any age to keep the body supple.

Attitude For Weight Loss

Much has been said and written about methods of weight loss, to the extent that if I see an article on it I'd probably turn over the page quickly. Then, why should I bother to write about one?

Because, what I have to say is not about any diet plan or exercise plan, but about how we feel; about what we think (not about what we eat), and how that really makes what we are.

There are all kinds of diets, exercise plans, retreats and what not - training people in aspects of weight loss. The techniques are all well researched; the teachers are good. Yet, these things don't always work and even if they do, it's mostly temporary. Then why is it that, after slogging for weeks or months, the fat refuses to go from our bodies. It just stays put for ever and ever....and ever...

The problem lies not with the method but with our mind, our attitude and our lifestyles. Besides following the routine of exercises and diets, it is most important to be self-aware; Awareness, that we have the healing power within ourselves; to realize what are our needs , strengths and weaknesses; To know what is good for us rather than blindly going for a fancy looking (Hollywood celebrity endorsed) diet plan.

Yogic approach to weight loss refers not only to the physical body, but to all aspects. It works on our level of consciousness (mental energy).

The meditation practice of antar mouna or inner silence helps to clean the mind. You start becoming aware of your own toxic thoughts and vicious mental patterns leading to repeated weight gain.

It is these negative thoughts which lead to inactivity and wrong food decisions. Once the thoughts are purged, their manifestation will cease. The physical body which is an outcome of our mental body will also be healed. The body will come back to its balanced weight and shape and remain like that.

With the practice of yoga therapy, we begin to realize our needs. We begin to develop greater self-confidence with our increasing awareness. We start becoming aware of what we need to eat, what exercise is good for us and how we should lead our lives.

Right mental attitude will then yield results of your preferred diet or exercise plan. The changes implemented then, will be lifelong.
